Reproductive Rights

Seventy-four percent of Pennsylvania voters support legal abortion in most or all cases. MacKenzie has voted against that majority — repeatedly and on the record.

The Stakes for District 131 Families

Since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, reproductive rights have returned to the states. In Pennsylvania, the right to abortion has been protected by the state Constitution — but MacKenzie voted to eliminate that protection.

District 131 is home to thousands of families at every stage of life. The decisions that parents, partners, and individuals make about their medical care are deeply personal. Meriam Sabih believes those decisions belong to families and their doctors — not to politicians in Harrisburg.

MacKenzie calls herself "personally pro-life with exceptions." But her voting record extends well beyond personal conviction into legislation that would restrict access for every woman in the district.

The record

MacKenzie's Votes on Reproductive Rights

Bill / Action MacKenzie's Vote What It Meant
SB 106 (2022)
Constitutional amendment on abortion
YES — Against Rights Voted YES on a constitutional amendment explicitly stating that women have no guaranteed right to abortion or public funding for abortion in Pennsylvania. This would have removed the PA Constitution's protection for reproductive rights.
HB 118
Burial/cremation of abortion remains
YES — Against Rights Voted YES on legislation requiring the burial or cremation of fetal remains following an abortion — a measure widely criticized as medically unnecessary and designed to add burden and shame to a legal medical procedure.
HB 1786
Interstate abortion access protections
NO — Against Rights Voted NO on legislation that would have prevented Pennsylvania from cooperating with other states seeking to block Pennsylvania residents from accessing abortions out of state.

Anti-Choice rating

MacKenzie is rated "Anti-Choice" by Choice Tracker, which grades legislators based on their reproductive rights voting record.

Cross-party votes (for context)

MacKenzie did vote YES on HB 1140 (requiring insurers to cover contraceptive drugs at no cost) and supported a World IVF Day resolution. These votes complicate the picture — but they do not change her record on abortion rights.

Where Meriam stands

Meriam's Position

Meriam Sabih believes that reproductive decisions are among the most personal choices a person can make — and that government has no place in that decision. She supports legal abortion access in Pennsylvania and will work to protect and expand those rights in Harrisburg.

She is endorsed by Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania PAC, Vote Pro Choice, and Her Bold Move, organizations that have carefully evaluated her record and her commitment.

Meriam also supports comprehensive access to reproductive healthcare, including contraception, IVF, maternal healthcare, and postpartum support. She believes these are not partisan issues — they are basic healthcare issues that affect families across District 131 regardless of party registration.

Protect Abortion Access

Meriam will vote to protect Pennsylvania's existing abortion access and oppose any constitutional amendments or legislation designed to restrict it. Reproductive healthcare is healthcare.

Keep Government Out of Medical Decisions

The decision about pregnancy belongs to the patient, their family, and their doctor — not politicians. Meriam opposes legislation that adds shame, burden, or bureaucratic obstacles to legal medical care.

Support Comprehensive Maternal Care

Meriam supports universal in-home maternal nursing (she would have voted YES on HB 1405) and expanded postpartum support for all Pennsylvania families.

Protect Interstate Access

Pennsylvania should never cooperate with other states trying to prevent residents from accessing legal healthcare. Meriam will vote to protect the freedom to travel for medical care.

Endorsed by reproductive rights organizations

Meriam is endorsed by Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania PAC, Vote Pro Choice, and Her Bold Move.
